You are scheduled for an interventional procedure with us. In order to prepare for the procedure, we would like to provide you these instructions:

Please discontinue any of the below medications, as instructed by your prescribing physician, below is a list of what we recommend but you should always follow the instructions of your Cardiologist or Primary Care Physician.

Blood thinners 

  • Plavix, Aspirin, Pletal -stop 7 days before.
  • Coumadin – stop 5 days before, check INR day of procedure, restart evening of procedure
  • Fish oil, Garlic, Ginseng, Vitamin A, Ginger, Kava Kava, Clove, White willow bark, Gingkoa Biloba – stop 7 days before ASA containing products: Alka-Seltzer, Bufferin, Excedrin, Ecotrin – 5 days before NSAIDS- Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Naproxen, Voltaren, Arthrotec, DayPro, Indocin, Relafen, Mobic-stop 5 days before.

If you are prescribed anticoagulants by your cardiologist or primary doctor please notify the office immediately for instructions on discontinuing the medication.

  • ReoPro
  • Ticlid, Iprivask, Refludan, Angiomax, Novastan, Exanta
  • Heparin
  • Lovenox, fragmin, Normiflo k. Aggrenox, Persantine, Arixtra, Orgaran

If you will be receiving sedation: 

  •  Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure (NO coffee, mints, gum)
  • Please refrain from using any pain medications or diabetic medications until after your procedure. A small sip of water for all remaining daily medications are allowed.
  • You must arrange from a driver the day of the procedure to be present with you. You are not allowed to operate heavy machinery/drive for the remaining day of the procedure

You will need to contact the office to reschedule your current procedure in the event

  • You develop fever, chills, or a cold.
  • You develop an active infection
  • Require the use of antibiotic medication for treatment.
  • Your blood sugar is > 200 and you are scheduled for a steroid procedure
  •  You developed an open wound or sore.
